Topic: kenya re profits 73% up - jtheuri  [1,135 views | 15 replies]
Monday, March 10, 2008 10:33
According to the Kenya -re prospectus its 2006 after tax profits were 394 million (EPS of 0.65). This would mean that the recently released nine month profits of 682 million  (EPS 1.14) are 73% higher than last years twelve months'. Given there was no tsunami in 2007 (the 2006  tsunami wiped out most of kenya-re's earnings that year),they are on course for 100% increase in profits.
Or am i missing something?

@cindano
I want to buy now and sell on the day they announce results. I'm not planning to wait for dividends.  My expenses will be fixed at 4.2%. If i can buy now and sell at over 19/=,  I'll make 20% net by end of month,whether i buy 1000 shares or a big batch

ALways be ahead of the trend

kennuregi*,

by critical mass i mean....

a certain number of shares..

any transaction costs accruing...

should not be equal or more than the little dividend you make...

make any sense???

@marconi
You dont need an opinion poll on the 73%
Profits last year were 394 million. check the prospectus,  or go to stockskenya's stocks summary page and calculate EPS * Issued shares (0.65 * 600m)
2007 nine months profits were 853 million before tax and 683 after tax. Source is business daily click here

They are an financial institution so they have to release results by 30th march

whether they are likely to double profits,how much the price will rise to when they are released,i'd also like to see people's opinions.

I'm a newcomer.

Does everyone else agree that kenya re's profits for nine months were 73% higher than last year's 12 months??

Is it likely to announce doubled profits?

Will it rise to over 19 bob if it does?

I need to  get the opinions of many people,like an opinion poll,before i buy.

Thanks

@kenmuregi
Yes it has to be this month. And  the way the financial institutions have been announcing without warning it could be kesho.

@cindano
i dont understand. A 20% gain is a 20% gain whether you put in 10K or 10M. or what did you mean by "critical mass in order to cash in"

Anyone with any idea when its releasing its results. It has to release by  march 30th,doesn't it?

kenmuregi*,

however....

there is a critical mass you need to have in order to cash in.....

american
A counter is about to announce double profits and you want to sell at the same price it has been trading the whole year?
Pls sell me a few on prompt.

@Georgesörös
PAT for 9months ending sept 07 were up 9%.
Also in 2006 fourth quarter it paid a lot of claims to the victims of the july 18th 2006 indonesia tsunami that it had re-insured  There were no natural disasters to take money in the fourth quarter of 2007 so the 682 million  its made so far is safe.
As compared to a full year profit of 394,i say it'll be a good year for them.

@jtheuri
Their investments also seem to have done well.Your earlier post showed that they made 400million from EABL bonuses and dividends . This by itself is more than their last years profits

@dsktop
Spectacular results is one reason that makes a counter go over plateau price. other reasons are dividends or splits. Doubling profits can be called Spectacular results

@cindano
Beg to differ on the long term only share. I'm buying at 15.80 and i'll sell 19.80 when they announce their results. thats 20% in two weeks right there.

this stock is prime for long term investors....

instead of education policies,etc......

however....

in this power deal...

should the management be switched to those that brought kenya national assurance corporation to its knees and eventually to its grave...

we are looking at a cousin of kenair.....

kenya re is not for retail -short term investors its for long term dividend seeking investors since it doesnt go beyond or show signs of going beyond the 17 bob plateau in the near future so if things look up for it now,exit stage right and dont look back ama?

PAT for 9months ending sept 07 were up 4%. This was supposed to be an indicator of what to expect for the yr ending dec07. End yr results have not yet been announced. The share price is dropping slowly in todays trading
